Silvena Rowe is the leading food expert in a little known area – that of the cuisines of Eastern & Central Europe. Her passion for food stems from running a family restaurant in Bulgaria then in Sardinia, which she did until 1995, as well as living and working in a restaurant in the old USSR.
With a distinctive style of cooking, Silvena combines her Eastern European heritage with a modern British and European twist. For over two decades, her career in the restaurant, catering and associated industries has led her to work as a private chef, a food writer, TV chef / presenter and cook book author.
Silvena has written for The Guardian, The Daily Star, Olive magazine, BBC Good Food Magazine, Delicious magazine, The independent and Metro. TV appearances include Chef On The Night and Cooking It! for Channel 4, Saturday Cooks for ITV1, Food Uncut and Great Food Live! for UKTV Food and Saturday Kitchen for BBC1.
So far, Silvena has had 3 books published – Supergrub: Dinner-Party Bliss On A Budget, The Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention Diet, Feasts: Food For Sharing From Central & Eastern Europe (selected for the Richard & Judy Book Club) – and she is currently working on a book about Russian culture and cuisine, Borsht & Tears.
In her work as a food consultant, Silvena contributes towards food knowledge and recipe development of Russian and Eastern European dishes for well known British company Marks & Spencer. Her most recent job in this area was as the food consultant for director David Cronenberg’s latest feature film.
Silvena was born and brought up in Bulgaria, but has been living in London for the last 21 years, with her British husband and 2 sons. Not only has she mastered English since settling in the UK, she is also fluent in Bulgarian and Russian.
