EWAN LACEY

Aiden Byrne

Ewan Lacey is a wine expert, dedicated to de-mystifying wine and opening the subject up to a wider audience. He shares his passion for wine with people from all walks of life – from City professionals to restaurant sommeliers.

Ewan’s style of communication is straight-forward, seeking to tell the story behind the wine and to paint a picture that is memorable, interesting and meaningful. He uses the reactions between wines and food to offer a simple way for people to understand matching certain foods with certain wines.

Ewan’s love affair with wine first showed itself as, aged eleven, he (and his older cousins) mine-swept a New Year’s Party. That first taste of euphoria, hoovering up dregs has had a profound effect. After leaving Peterhead (north east Scotland) with its’ permissive attitudes behind, Ewan went to study law in the more urbane and genteel confines of Glasgow.

Funding his study by working in a succession of bars and restaurants, it was in this time that Ewan’s love of wine really took hold. After graduating, there followed a brief and unsuccessful stint in the legal profession. As a property buyer for an international supermarket group, Ewan dreamed of something more interesting and took a leap of faith and entered the London Wine Trade.

After learning the business and managing the accounts of London’s foremost Hotels and restaurants, Ewan set up a wine consultancy in 2003 – The Tiny Cellar Company.

The emphasis, from the start, has been on spreading the joy that’s to be found in the subject. The client list covers a broad range of private, corporate, restaurant and celebrity clients. The activities vary – from training City professionals on the do’s and don’ts of wine; to planning celebrity weddings, to putting on events or just throwing great parties.
